Wonderfully Made Me

Even when you feel torn down, worn out, unloved, or out of wack, one must remember that we were fearfully and wonderfully made by God. We are all unfinished masterpieces, but every inch of us has purpose and God is absolutely not done using our mess, our uniqueness, or our trials and heartbreak to get us to the place we were predestined to be. This "mess" is beautiful and this "mess" is me!

Love story

"Who wants that perfect love story anyway?" -Beyoncé, Part II (On the run)

Since it's the season of love and romance being that it's almost Valentine's Day, the topic of love and relationship has been prevalent on the TV, radio, and various other avenues. This leads me to question what is perfect love, or if there can even be a perfect love story.

From our younger years, Disney taught us to dream about the young, handsome prince swooping us off of our feet and walking into marital bliss with him. Or the knight in shining armor rushing to our rescue to make us the happiest girls alive. This is what we saw so we believed that to be a perfect love story.

As we got older, we lived and experienced the ups and downs of love, but most of all we got a dose, or several doses, of reality...what real relationship was, how it came to be, and what type of person it came from. Most of us can probably say that prince didn't appear much, if at all; however, that doesn't stop us from desiring what was continually embedded in our heads, "our knight in shining armor".

So, the lyric I referenced at the beginning of the post is from a Jay Z song where Bey sings about a "Bonnie and Clyde" type of relationship. It's not what popular culture or any God-fearing person would deem a perfect or proper relationship, but it's the love she decided was the best for her. She sings, "Who wants that hero love that saves the day?" She's saying that she doesn't want a typical love story. That "cliched" love story doesn't suit her tastes or interests.

At this point in my love life, especially after, well I won't go there...at this point I'm feeling a lot like Bey, bump that cliched, repeated, drawn out love story!!! Those fairy tales most times end up being just that-a flipping fairy tale. Those men are usually the ones that end up hurting you the most anyway. So if my love life, relationship, and boo seems a bit unconventional to some, it's okay. I like it better on this imperfect side...

Toast to cliches in my dark past!!!
